What is the mission of this team?

The Parish Visitor Team was developed specifically to provide support and companionship to residents of two extended care facilities linked with our parish: Elm Hill Nursing Center and Maple View Manor.

How does it work?

Recreational staff at each facility help match new team members with residents who would benefit most from receiving regular visits. Not all team members are able to make the serious commitment required of those who choose to provide individual visits. Some members choose, instead, to share their talents by periodically arranging group activities.

Who can participate?

We are always seeking caring, patient, flexible and reliable men and women who are good listeners. This ministry encourages students from St. James Nursery School, Religious Education Classes, and Confirmation Candidates and their Faith Mentors to participate in our special Holiday Projects. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

What are the opportunities and rewards for team members?

This challenging ministry enables us to comfort the lonely, follow our gospel mandate to visit the sick, serve as mentors to our youth, and form new relationships with those of different faiths.

What is the time commitment?

The time commitment varies according to the individual members. Weekly visits average 30-60 minutes.

Our team meets at 7:00 pm on the second Wednesday of every other month from October through June. Guests and anyone interested in becoming a new member are always welcome! Please contact Laura Zajac at (860) 257-1658 for more details.

Scheduled dates for 2012/2013 are October 17, December 12, February 13, April 10 and June 12
